Alyssa Kimpel began playing the flute at age 7, and the piccolo at age 10. She is currently pursuing music performance and psychology degrees at the University of Central Florida. She is/has been a member of the UCF Knight Winds Ensemble, UCF Wind Ensemble, and UCF Symphony Orchestra on flute as well as piccolo. Throughout middle and high school, she was a member of the 2007, 2008, and 2010 All-State ensembles, where she had the opportunity to be one of the principal chairs in both 2008 and 2010. She was also a member of the All-County bands from 2006-2010. She was principal flute in 2006, 2008, and 2010, and principal piccolo in 2009. From 2003-2010, she earned straight superiors in District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals in both Pennsylvania and Florida. Alyssa also had the chance to perform in the 2006 Florida Flute Association Junior Masterclass with Paige Long, and she performed in the 2010 Florida Flute Association 11th-12th Grade Masterclass with Dr. Nora-Lee Garcia. In 2007, she took part in the YouTube Brio Flute Competition sponsored by banddirector.com, and took 3rd place. She has also been the recipient of the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence, and the UCF Gale Sperry Music Scholarship. In the summer of 2011, she was selected to perform and study in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music Summer Flute Institute with Michel Debost, and she performed with the UCF Knight Winds Ensemble at the 2011 National Flute Convention. In 2012, Alyssa played in UCF masterclasses with Jan Gippo, Catherine Ramirez, Deirdre Manning, Jean Ferrandis, and Richard Sherman. In 2013, she performed in a UCF masterclass with Carol Wincenc, and another UCF masterclass with Richard Sherman. In the summer of 2013, she will be attending the inaugural National Wind and Percussion Workshop at the Shenandoah Conservatory. She currently teaches privately in the Orlando area, and works as a woodwind technician in area high schools.
I haven’t posted on here since the beginning of the semester, but I am down to the final three days! Since my last post, the band I worked with this season became state finalists, I gained several new private students, and I was accepted to the 2012 FMEA Intercollegiate All-State Band! I also had a great jury this morning! It’s the final stretch! There is also a new video on my YouTube channel on the left of my profile if you want to check it out! :)
